Office Depot honored as environmental partner

Office Depot was awarded the Environmental Partner Award from Webster Industries for diverting millions of pounds of plastic from landfill through the sale of recycled content ReClaim™ and Earth Sense™ trashcan liners. Through its use and sale of these products, over the past three years, Office Depot has prevented nearly 2.4 million pounds of plastic from going to landfills or being incinerated.  “We commend Office Depot for its continued focus on environmental sustainability,” said Jack Shields, president of Webster Industries. “Their strategic marketing of environmentally preferable products has put Office Depot at the forefront of the ‘green’ movement. We value our partnership with Office Depot and are pleased to honor the Company’s leadership role in the office products industry.”  In 2008 alone, the ReClaim trashcan liners sold through Office Depot helped prevent more than 723,121 pounds of plastic from going to landfill or being incinerated. “Office Depot’s continued commitment to ‘Increasingly Buy Green, Be Green and Sell Green’ is evident throughout our growing assortment of products within our retail stores as well as within the Green Book catalog,” said Steve Mahurin, executive vice president of merchandising for Office Depot. We are proud to be recognized by Webster Industries as a leader in environmental sustainability.”  Webster Industries is the first and only company to obtain independent certification for recycled content can liners from Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) – a leading, independent third party auditing and environmental claim certification firm.
